Picture yourself in the era of discoveries: after a long voyage of great deprivation, your ships have finally reached the coast of an uncharted island. You name the island Catan but soon realize you are not the only discoverers. Other fearless seafarers have also landed on the shores of Catan. The land is rich in natural resources and the race to settle the island has begun!
Catan (formerly called Settlers of Catan) is an award-winning game of strategy and skill. Easy to learn and great for older children and adults.
How to Play:
The game begins by assembling 19 hexagonal cardboard tiles into a beautiful patchwork quilt of mountains, pastures, hills, fields and forests - all surrounded by the sea. Each game board is unique and different! Number tokens which correspond to dice rolls are placed atop each hexagon.
On the first roll of the dice, players take turns selecting a spot to place a specific-colored starter settlement with two houses. On subsequent rolls of the dice players create more settlements, upgrade to cities, build roads, garner points, purchase and trade resources of grain, brick, ore, wood or wool with each other Try to build far and wide and control a port city - plus avoid the robber pawn!
